Reflexology is a relaxing massage technique whereby reflex areas in our feet or hands are stimulated by pressure to generate a positive response in specific parts of the body. These include the nerves, organs, muscles, bones, endocrine glands (hormones) and other tissues. Reflexology is based on the principle that every part of the body is represented in different reflex points on the feet, hands, face and ears.
The benefits of reflexology are said to include: relaxation of the body and mind relieving stress and tension, improvement of the circulation of blood and lymphatic systems and the improvement of nervous system functioning.
Reflexology can be useful for treating a variety of conditions, some of which include rheumatic pains, constipation, tension and stress, poor sleep, tension headaches, menstrual irregularities and sinus – just to name a few.
The art of reflexology has a history spanning thousands of years from ancient Egypt to the beginnings of Ayurvedic medicine in India, and the healing practices of China. Modern day reflexologists have evolved techniques and drafted maps which draw on the knowledge of the ages to bring us the best of this ancient practice.
When a person is healthy, energy moves freely along specific paths. However, when energy is impeded through tension, congestion or imbalance then organs and internal structures that lie in the energy path have a potential to succumb to disease.
Your qualified reflexologist will help clear unwanted energy blockages within the body and allow this energy to flow more efficiently and freely allowing a healing and balancing process to begin, which in turn brings about homeostasis.
