Riding for mental health
Congratulations to all the riders who participated in the second annual ‘Ride for Relief’ charity cycling event on Sunday 20th October 2019.
Heading off from Peninsula Hot Springs at 8:00am on Sunday morning a cycling tour of the Mornington Peninsula began, including the challenge of a 3km climb of Arthur’s Seat. 40 riders hit the road in either the 106km or 51km ride, a record number of participants for the event which is only in its second year, with the professional support of crew members such as leading riders, mechanics and paramedics as well as support vehicles to make sure that the the rides were safe, fun and inclusive to all riders.
The team had a morning-tea stop at Arthurs Seat Eagle and The Boss’s Daughter Cafe. The ride then finished back at Peninsula Hot Springs where our riders were greeted by cheering friends, family and the Peninsula Hot Springs team.
Once arriving back at Peninsula Hot Springs, our riders enjoyed a nutritious lunch, hearing personal stories shared by both ambassadors Phil Anderson and Steele Von Hoff, as well as a client from Mentis Assist. They then were able to sit back with a recovery bathe in our thermal mineral spring waters… just what their aching muscles needed.
Aiming to beat $18,000 raised for our charity partner Mentis Assist in the 2018 event, we were humbled to see that this year Ride for Relief, as of 21st October, has raised over $30,000 in addition to the sponsorship fund of $7,000 (with 3 sponsors). The riders are still receiving donations until the end of October, as well as more fundraising activities planned this week, including a signed Richmond AFL jumper for auction.
Mentis Assist will use the funds raised to help alleviate homelessness and help people get those extra resources that we take for granted, such as white goods, furniture, school books, access to social and sporting activities – all aimed to assist people to become active members of the community and provide hope for the future.
We wish to say a sincere thank you to the following people and organisations that have made the ride possible through many different ways:
- Our professional cycling Ambassadors: Phil Anderson and Steele Van Hoff
- Our volunteers, including support crew, vehicle drivers and medical attendants
- Our Platinum Sponsor:
