Share the Warmth this season
Bring along a friend in need this season
Did you know that one in five Australians experiences a mental health condition in a given year and almost one in two will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lifetime? Or that mental illness currently affects 4,000,000 Australians? Or that social relationships and connection to community are major determinants in life expectancy?
It’s because of these statistics that Peninsula Hot Springs has forged partnerships with Mentis Assist and Mental Health Australia. This August and September, in an effort to ease some of the stress surrounding mental ill-health, Peninsula Hot Springs is inviting visitors to bring along a friend who may be experiencing mental health challenges. Purchase two weekday bathing passes (one for you, one for your friend) and the second will be free of charge.
A 2015 study* conducted in conjunction with RMIT University’s School of Health and Biomedical Sciences, in which over 4000 Peninsula Hot Springs visitors were surveyed about their bathing experience, revealed that “relaxation,” “peace and tranquility,” “indulgence” and “escape” were the most important motivators for bathing. Most respondents also reported general health benefits (98%) and better sleep (82%) as a result of bathing, and significant benefits were reported for stress and anxiety, depression and insomnia.
The same researchers have identified 20 studies worldwide that investigate hot springs therapy (balneotherapy) and its effectiveness for chronic pain, which also reveal mental health improvements through bathers’ Quality of Life reports. When we can alleviate pain through bathing, we also assist sleep, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues that stem from that pain.
So come along and share the warmth with a friend in need. A soak in geothermal waters could help lighten the load just that little bit.
