World Mental Health Day 2020
One in five Australians experience mental illness each year, yet despite this, there is an ongoing stigma that prevents more people from coming forward to seek treatment, support and recovery. During the COVID-19 pandemic, prioritising mental health and wellbeing has been more important than ever.
This World Mental Health Day – Saturday 10 October – the message is simple: “Look after your mental health, Australia.”
World Mental Health Day is an annual initiative started by the World Federation for Mental Health and in Australia, this initiative is carried out by Mental Health Australia. As the peak not-for-profit organisation representing the mental health sector in Australia, Mental Health Australia has a focus on ensuring the whole community recognises the part we all play in creating a mentally healthy society. They aim to encourage people to see beyond the stigma and to make mental health more visible, representing promoting the interests of its over 120 national and state charity organisations such as Beyond Blue, Headspace, RU OK?, Lifeline and also our charity partner based in Mornington Peninsula, Mentis Assist.
Peninsula Hot Springs is the first Corporate Friend of Mental Health Australia, assisting them to advocate for a better mental health system for all Australians in order to achieve the vision of mentally healthy people and communities.
